Several rural homes were caught by surprise near the Pilchuck River, next to the Centennial Trail between Machias and Snohomish, WA. These homes were thought to be nowhere near the water.

Snohomish River is facing major flooding. Here are some pictures of the damage the Snohomish River has done:

Snohomish River Flooding People gathered to view the amazing display of flooding that flooded homes not originally located anywhere near water.	Snohomish River Roads everywhere in Snohomish were closed with people watching in disbelief.
Snohomish River Flooding Entire streets were shut down. A lumber mill sent pieces of wood floating around. Very few police officers and fireman could be found as the amount of flooding spread them much too thin.	Snohomish River Flooding: Downtown Snohomish Notice the walkway is completely engulfed. The water was moving really fast with lots of tree debris floating down.

8:15 a.m. Lewis County District Court cancels hearings - Lewis County District Court announces that all the civil, criminal, and traffic infraction hearings for Thursday, January 8th, and the criminal pretrial and arraignment hearings scheduled for Friday, January 8th, at the District Court in Chehalis have been cancelled due to extreme flooding conditions. Any person who was set up for a hearing at those court sessions should contact the District Court in Chehalis at 740-1202 for further information as to their new court date. 8:00 a.m. King County has updated it's road closure list. Click here. 7:59 a.m. KING5 News is told a mudslide has hit at 5400 Mt. Baker Highway, just east of Highway 9. The slide is approximately 75 yards across and is 6 feet deep. Five houses have been damaged and power has been knocked out in the immediate area. Water is running over a nearby levee but the levee has not been breached. 7:35 a.m. KING5 News Meeghan Black reports a mudslide has closed Grady Way and Interurban in Tukwila. The WSDOT has now closed down the offramps to the West Valley Highway (SR 181) and to Interurban from southbound I-405. So people wanting to exit I-405 can not. Traffic is backing up . 6:53 a.m. KING5 reporter Tim Robinson reports water from the Stillaguamish River is covering SR 530 in Arlington. 6:46 a.m. SR 203 closed in Carnation between the Tolt River and NE Carnation Farm Road. SR 203 is also closed between Duvall and Monroe. Both closures are due to water over the roadway. 6:45 a.m. Water over the roadway has closed the northbound lanes of SR 7 in Spanaway. Southbound traffic is able to travel through the area. 6:45 a.m. Pierce County reports new areas of flooding along the Puyallup River. In the area between River Road , Pioneer, and 44th St. E. in unincorporated Pierce County near Tacoma, water is rising because the creeks have no place to go. 6:02 a.m. Marlena in King County reports on our county-by-county page that there are several main and back roads in both the Kent and Auburn area that are covered in water. Due to high water, crews were unable to access that area and are waiting for the water to recede. The PUD had three crews out working most of the night. 5:04 a.m. Issaquah Creek's level made it to Phase 3, and Tibbetts and Issaquah Creeks are now cresting. Click here for a the latest map of road closures in Issaquah. update. 5:03 a.m. A mudslide is blocking all lanes of the 9700 block of Rainier Ave. S in Seattle. The slide occured around 1 a.m.. Engineers will assess the situation in the morning. 4:44 a.m. US 101 is closed in both directions at Purdy Cutoff Road in Mason County due to water over the roadway. US 101 at milepost 339 five miles north of Shelton in Mason 4:43 a.m. All lanes of SR 542 at Truck Rd near Deming are blocked by a mudslide and downed power lines. 4:40 a.m. SR 106 is closed in both directions at Creekside Drive in Mason County due to water over the roadway. 4:27 a.m. SR 110 near Ballard Road (milepost 8) near the town of Forks in Clallam County has been reopened to traffic. 4:24 a.m. Seattle firefighters report a mudslide has hit a triplex at 1040 Elliott Ave. W. All residents were evacuated and no one was injured. Mostly brush and trees hit the building. 4:15 a.m. Both directions of US 2 are closed west of Skykomish at milepost 44.3 because of water over the roadway. 4:12 a.m. Grays Harbor power outage update - Grays Harbor PUD crews continue to work to restore power to customers after downed trees fell on power lines. Residents on Johns River Road will experience a power outage beginning this morning. Crews will be removing trees in lines. The repair work is expected to begin around 1am and is expected to take a couple hours to complete. An outage is reported in the Oakville area impacting a few customers. The cause hasn't been determined yet and there is no estimated time for restoration of power yet. 4:07 a.m. WSDOT reports westbound SR 6 from I-5 to the Old State Route 603 junction (mile posts 51.37 to 49.08) near Chehalis is closed due to high water. 4:05 a.m. All lanes of SR 530 at the Lincoln Bridge near Arlington (milepost 21.8) are closed in both directions because of water over the roadway. 4:00 a.m. King County dispatch reports a small bridge at SE Tiger Mountain Rd and SE 252 Place SE has partially collapse. The bridge is at a small dead end road on 252nd. No Injuries. 3:48 a.m. NE Woodinville - Duvall Road in King County between West Snoqualmie Valley Rd NE & SR 203 (Carnation Duvall Rd NE), is closed due to water over the roadway. More King County road info. 3:42 a.m. All lanes of SR 169 are closed near Cedar Grove in Maple Valley (milepost 19.2) because of water over the roadway. 3:28 a.m. All rail traffic between Seattle and Portland remains suspended due to high water. Amtrak will reevaluate tonight whether they will run Friday. 3:04 a.m. Here's a link to a list of Whatcom County road closures from the public works department. 2:34 a.m. Flood crest times from the USGS, compiled by KING 5 Meteorologist Shannon O'Donnell can be found here. 1:56 a.m. On eastbound SR 16 at Burley Olalla Road, there is water over the roadway blocking the right lane. 1:52 a.m. Two right lanes of I-5 are blocked due to water over the roadway from mileposts 138-140 near Fife. 12:53 a.m., Thursday. All lanes of US 101 are blocked at Lilliwaup Street for at least the next 30 minutes several miles north of Shelton due to fallen trees. Mileposts 327-328. 11:52 p.m. Off ramp blocked by landslide on SR 16 at SR 166 . 11:13 p.m. King County has issued a Phase IV flood alert for the Cedar River, where a water release by Seattle Public Utilities from Chester Morse Dam is expected to keep stream flows dramatically elevated into Thursday evening. Severe flooding is expected from Fall City downstream through Carnation and Duvall. River levels also remain dangerously high on the Tolt and Snoqualmie rivers, with Phase IV flood alerts in effect and major flooding occurring across much of those watersheds. The Flood Warning Center also reported Wednesday night that Issaquah Creek has climbed back up to a Phase III flood alert level after receding significantly this morning. While the water level is beginning to drop on the upper Snoqualmie, river flows near Carnation are expected to approach or surpass record levels as high water moves through the system. The river was expected to crest near Carnation at roughly 10 a.m. Thursday. Severe flooding is expected from Fall City downstream through Carnation and Duvall as well as for the Cedar River. 11:06 p.m. SR 3 in Shelton is blocked in both directions from Harvard Avenue to MP 2.75 near Front Street. 10:45 p.m. There will be no Sounder commuter rail service between Tacoma and Seattle all day Thursday. People may take buses instead. They are currently looking into adding extra buses for the commuting hours. 10:25 p.m. Carnation residences between NE 32nd and SE 3rd east of the Snoqualmie River are now cut off from emergency responders. Homeowners in that area need to be aware that there will be no fire emergency response to that area. All medical emergencies will be on a delayed response. Fire officials are working on staging personnel in the area using one of the local firefighters' homes as an overnight response location. Eastside Fire Dispatch is using the Reverse 911 system to contact homeowners by calling their homes with a pre-recorded message advising them of the situation. For non-emergency inquires about the situation you can call 425-333-4129. 9:52 p.m. Issaquah Creek's level is now at Phase 3 with moderate to major flooding on Issaquah Creek, Tibbetts Creek and the East Fork of Issaquah Creek. Upstream, Issaquah Creek has reached 8.5 feet and is rising. Block your basement drains and evacuate if needed. Do not walk, wade or drive in flooded areas. 9:40 p.m. King County road crews continue to respond to what may be one of the worst floods in years. The flood has already impacted more than 35 roads countywide and the worst may not be over. By Thursday morning, swollen rivers and mudslides may boost the number of road closures even higher, dramatically reducing access in many King County neighborhoods. The hardest hit area is East King County. The Snoqualmie Valley continues to reel from major flooding along the Snoqualmie River. For updated road closure information, go to http://your.kingcounty.gov/kcdot/roads/roadalert/. 9:26 p.m. The temporary warming evacuation center located at Cascade View Elementary School on Snoqualmie Ridge has closed. Overnight shelter for residents displaced by the flood is open at the Preston Community Center, 8625 - 310th Ave SE (accessible via exit 22 on Interstate 90). For more information about the shelter, call 206-370-1869. Free shuttle service from Snoqualmie to the Preston Community Center is available upon request at 425-888-5911. All roads into downtown Snoqualmie are closed. For flood assistance in Snoqualmie, call 425-888-5911. 9:24 p.m. They're going door to door on Park Street in Shelton due to high water in Goldsborough Creek. A shelter has been set up. 8:55 p.m. Highway 203 closed from Carnation to Fall City, also closed in North Carnation from NE Stillwater Rd. to NE 60th St. E verything north of Stillwater Rd. is open, but conditions are rapidly changing. 8:30 p.m. Grays Harbor PUD crews are responding to a power outage impacting approximately 3,000 customer in the area of East Hoquiam north to Kalaloch. This includes Axford Prairie, Quinault, Promise Land, Crane Creek and Neilton. Crews have been dispatched and there is no estimated time for power restoration yet. Earlier this evening, approximately 1,380 customers lost power in the Central Park area of Grays Harbor located between Montesano and Aberdeen. The cause of the outage was a tree through a power line. 8:14 p.m. High wind warning for South Washington Coast until 2 a.m. Thursday. Also avalanche warning for extreme avalanche danger remains in effect for the Olympics and Cascades through tonight. 7:41 p.m. As we reported to you earlier (1:01 p.m.), the Justin Lane Bridge in Morton was wiped out by the floods. A viewer sent us the following photo of it. This is one of the big reasons Morton is cut off right now. Nearby Randle is also cut off due to mudslides.

7:22 p.m.: Another report in our county-by-county section : “James street at N Central Ave in Kent heading up the hill toward 240th was under 4 to 5 inches of water in the center lanes, 6 to 8 in the outside lanes as of 6:10pm. If the road isn't closed yet, it should have been then." 7:20 p.m: KING 5 Meteorologist Shannon O'Donnell says 8.5 inches of rain has fallen in 24 hours near Lacey. 7:19 p.m.: Kirsten Munsey reports on our county-by-county page : "We live at mile marker 15 on Highway 508 past Onalaska, at about mile marker 11-14 the river is almost up to the bridge, and water was up to numerous doorsteps at 2:00 p.m. today. 7:07 p.m.: Orting Mayor Cheryl Temple says the prediction for the Puyallup River has been downgraded from record flooding to moderate flooding. But, she says the Carbon River prediction has gone up to a near-record level. She does warn that the situation seems to change from hour-to-hour. 7:03 p.m.: The Whatcom County Humane Society, 733-2080 x3002 , will provide "temporary housing" for small animals due to home evacuations. If you need assistance transporting animals to the shelter, call the Humane Society and ask for an animal control officer so the officer can make arrangements with you to pick up the animals and have them transported. 6:56 p.m.: Tacoma Power is keeping an eye on rising river levels and the potential for flooding at the Radiance Housing Development in Fife. If water levels pose a safety threat or could cause extensive damage to the utility's electrical system, Tacoma Power must shut off electrical service to the development with little or no notice. 6:54 p.m.: The Whatcom County Health Department is recommending that residents who obtain their drinking water directly from Lake Whatcom, Lake Samish, Cain Lake or other surface water sources boil water for one minute prior to consumption, until further notice. Residents obtaining their water from a public water supply do not need to boil their water. Also, due to a broken water main, the Acme water system has issued a boil water advisory for water users on Turkington Road, west of Hudson Road. 6:40 a.m.: The Red Cross has opened the following disaster relief shelters. Residents are asked to bring toiletries, blankets, sleeping bags, pillows, clothing, towels and washcloths. Pets are not allowed in shelters. Highland Drive Arlington, WA Skagit County -Red Cross Shelter at St. Catherine Catholic Mission 45603 Limestone St. Concrete, WA 6:28 p.m.: WSDOT has officially closed I-5 from Highway 12 at milepost 67 to Grand Mound at milepost 88. That closure area includes Chehalis and Centralia. The closure is about 3.5 hours ahead of schedule. The only detours are on either I-84 or SR 14 to US 97 or US 395. There are two separate areas of I-84 that are currently reduced to a single lane in each direction. These two sections are at milepost 46 near Cascade Locks and milepost 64-66, just east of Hood River. Drivers can expect narrowed lanes and lengthy delays. 6:09 p.m.: The Washington State Department of Transportation is beginning the process of shutting down a 20 mile stretch of Interstate 5 in Lewis and Thurston counties. 5:53 p.m.: An overnight shelter is open in Preston for residents displaced by the flood. Fifty beds are being provided by the American Red Cross at the Preston Community Center, 8625 - 310th Ave SE (accessible via exit 22 on Interstate 90). Food will be available. For more information about the shelter, please call 206-370-1869. 5:51 p.m.: Residents on Collins Way and Shoreline Drive in Toledo are being evacuated due to water coming over the dike in the 400 block of Eadon Road. 5:33 p.m.: Evacuations have widened for parts of Sumner and East Pierce County. They now include: --Rainier Manor --Rivergrove Apartments --All residents of Riverwalk -- Residents off 29th Street in the north area of Sumner -- Residents of the Rivergrove area west of 147th Avenue E. In addition, there is a recommended evacuation for the cities of Wilkeson and South Prairie in eastern Pierce County. Not all of these areas will experience structural flooding but high water is threatening roads and bridges that provide access. 5:28 p.m.: WSDOT says it has closed more than 60 roads statewide in the last 12 hours and is still predicting the closure of I-5 in Lewis County later tonight. They also say I-5 may have to be closed north of the Puyallup River Bridge in Fife, possibly this evening. 5:13 p.m.: Grays Harbor Emergency Management says local rivers have reached flood stage and are still rising. Residents along the low-lying areas of the Satsop River and Wynoochee River should strongly consider evacuation. Sand and sandbags are available at the Brady Fire Station, Oakville Public Works, and Fire District 16 (Copalis Crossing). Church of God in Montesano is hosting a shelter at 317 E Spruce St. Oakville High School will serve as a shelter beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Use the north main entrance (near Home Ec Room) No pets allowed at Oakville. If using a shelter, please remember to bring personal food, provisions and medications. County Fairgrounds in Elma is available for pet sheltering Some local vets have agreed to shelter pets. Please check with your veterinarian. Pet shelters requests you bring 5 days of food and provisions with your pet. 5:09 p.m.: Puyallup City Manager Gary McLean says the Puyallup River could reach 36 feet – two feet higher than the record set in 1917. He says “…if you live near Clarks creek or any of the neighborhoods in Puyallup that are adjacent to the river or any of its tributaries it's probably a great idea to be packing up now and figuring out where you're going to be staying tonight.” The city will use robocalls and reverse 911 to contact residents to warn them to evacuate. 4:57 p.m.: From a viewer on our county-by-county reporting section. West Ellensburg is being evacuated due to flooding and there is a fuel spill at the Pilot gas station at the west interchange. 4:40 p.m.: From KING 5’s Eric Wilkinson in Lewis County: Eastern Lewis County and Chehais/Centralia are expected to get as bad, if not worse, as the December 2007 flood. It should not be as bad in Western Lewis County. Randle at Highway 12 is cut off by two landslides between Packwood and Morton. Two deputies are stranded there. They had been helping out with 35 rescues. In Centralia – if the Skookumchuk River floods as projected tonight, it will be record flooding. Possibly 1,500 homes affected, mainly in the historic Edison Neighborhood. I-5 may shut down as early as 10 p.m. between exit 68 and exit 88. It could be closed for three-to-five days. They stress that this is unlike anything we have ever seen here. 3:26 p.m.: SR 411 from milepost 7 to milepost 11 South of Castle Rock is back open in both directions. 3:24 p.m.: Transportation Secretary Paula Hammond expects floodwaters will close Interstate 5 at Centralia. She says the northbound lanes would probably go under first Wednesday afternoon and the rest of the freeway Wednesday night. 3:22 p.m.: The City of Fife has declared a state of emergency and is asking citizens living and working in the city south of Interstate 5 begin a voluntary evacuation due to the possibility of flooding from the Puyallup River. While officials continue to seek a temporary shelter for those displaced by the possible flooding, they are asking people to get to higher ground away from the river by 5 PM. Members of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians that live in the affected area are asked to respond to the Fife Emerald Queen Casino. Fife Police have shut down N. Levee Rd in to, and out of, the city at Freeman Rd E., 70th Ave E. and 54th Ave E. Police have also closed Frank Albert Rd. at Industry Dr. until further notice. 3:19 p.m.: Mount Rainier National Park officials will close the Nisqually Entrance gate into the park this evening as a precautionary measure due to the uncertainty of the predicted rising rivers. 3:18 p.m.: From Sound Transit: At this time, all 12 Sounder trains scheduled for Wednesday afternoon will run. Due to weather conditions, Sounder trains between Seattle and Tacoma may experience 5-10 minute delays. Service between Seattle and Everett is not affected. 3:16 p.m.: The City of Everett has closed the Rotary Boat Launch, 3505 Lowell-Snohomish River Road, and Lowell Riverfront Park, 1400 Lowell River Road, due to rising waters along the Snohomish River. The Everett Animal Shelter facility, 2732 is closed due to water over the road that accesses the shelter. The shelter's mobile unit is open and located at the entrance of Eclipse Mill Road for animal intakes. The mobile unit will be open until 5 p.m. today, Wednesday Jan. 7. Staff members will reassess conditions for Thursday Jan. 8. Please note: animals at shelter are safe and on "high ground" and are well cared for. 3:15 p.m.: From KING 5’s Drew Mikkelsen in Orting: Recommended evacuation still in effect. Flood stage there is expected to reach 20 feet by 10 p.m. That’s eight feet higher than in 2006. Orting’s mayor says this is the first time in her 22 years in town she can recall an evacuation notice like this. 3:10 p.m.: More than a dozen commercial Puget Sound shellfish areas have been closed due to contaminated run-off from floodwaters. And the state is advising recreational shellfish harvesters not to harvest oysters or clams from the Sound for at least a week. 2:56 p.m.: Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy has signed a Proclamation of Emergency due to current and projected flood warnings for the Puyallup, Nisqually and Carbon rivers. 2:39 p.m.: There are reports of a water rescue near Snoqualmie Falls. 2:34 p.m.: The Washington National Guard has called up 200 citizen soldiers to assist with flood response. Another 200-250 will be activated tonight. This is in addition to those already working in the Spokane area. 2:30 p.m.:The City of Arlington has activated their Emergency Operations Center to assist with coordination of Flood Response. Currently Hwy 530 is still open at the Lincoln Bridge, but it is down to one alternating lane. The Burn Road has been undercut by approximately 3 feet and the City has closed it. Also 204th Street at Hwy 9 is sustaining urban flooding causing road delays. The City has made available sand, sand bags, and shovels available at the City Hall parking lot on Olympic Avenue on a self serve basis for anyone in need of sandbags to protect their property or business. Residents along the Stillaguamish River are self evacuating themselves and their animals to higher and safer ground. The projected crest for the Stillaguamish River at Arlington is 22.52 feet around 4am on Thursday morning, which would be a record flood event at that level. 2:29 p.m.: Large portions of State Route 202 are closed beginning at Snoqualmie Parkway to North Bend due to water over the roadway. All roads leading into downtown Snoqualmie are closed. The public is asked to avoid downtown Snoqualmie at this time. 2:27 p.m.: Orting schools will be closed Thursday. The city is under recommended evacuation. 2;24 p.m.: In Arlington, SR 530 east to Darrington is being closed. Water is overtopping the dikes but they are holding. The City of Arlington is preparing self-service sandbags. 2:04 p.m.: Kittitas County has declared a state of emergency. Lewis County commissioners have declared the county a disaster area due to mudslides, road closures, impending flooding, and depletion of local resources. 1:54 p.m.: White Pass is closed until at least tomorrow morning due to slides. 1:49 p.m.: Video from SkyKING shows a lineup of cars heading north out of Orting. 1:25 p.m.: King County says SR 203 at NE 40th in Carnation is closed due to flooding. SR 203 north of Carnation is expected to be closed within the next 24-hours due to flooding. The road at 428th Avenue SE at Reinig Road in North Bend has also been closed due to flooding. Click here for updated King County road closures 1:21 p.m.: SkyKING Pilot Mark Hansen says there’s been a slide over the Middle Fork Road along the Snoqualmie River. 1:07 p.m.: A caller to KING 5 says he was one of the people who rescued the woman in a home hit by a mudslide in Concrete (See post at 12:44 p.m.) He says one house came down the hill and hit another. Rescuers had to use car jacks to pry open the doors of the home to get the woman out. 1:01 p.m.: From Lewis County: A 66 year old man, trapped at approximately 11:49 today, as a result of a mudslide that entered his home on Justin Lane, north of Morton, has been rescued and is safe. His wife, who was also in the house during the mudslide is also safe. The Justin Lane bridge has been destroyed. Rescue personnel are currently in the process of evacuating residents, approximately 7, from the area. The National Guard have been activated to assist with rescue operations in the east end of the county. The Packwood Presbyterian Church, located at 13096 US Hwy 12, has been opened as a shelter. 12:59 p.m: Pierce Co. Detective Ed Troyer says multiple police and fire agencies are working to get the word out in Orting that residents should evacuate. They are also calling in more manpower to patrol and prevent looting in the city. Orting’s Mayor stresses this is a recommended evacuation and it’s not mandatory at this point. 12:50 p.m.: Skagit County commissioners have declared a storm emergency to help deal with heavy snow, rain and flooding. 12:49 p.m.: The National Weather Service forecasts major flooding on 18 rivers in Western Washington. That means flooding likely to cover roads and invade property. A forecaster at the Seattle office says the most significant damage may be at Centralia where the Chehalis is expected to close Interstate 5. Other major flooding is taking place on the Tolt River at Carnation and the Cowlitz near Randle and the Puyallup at Orting. 12:48 p.m.: The community of Greenwater is cut off by a mudslide and water over Highway 410 between milepost 22 and milepost 38. 12:44 p.m.: Skagit County Emergency Management says there has been a landslide in Concrete. The Skagit Valley Herald reports a woman was temporarily trapped in a home but has been rescued. Initial indications are that she is OK.

All WSDOT maintenance personnel are being evacuated between milepost 47 and milepost 53. 12:38 p.m.: Pierce County officials are going door to door with loudspeakers in Orting, recommending that residents evacuate There is concern that bridges will give out and that people will be trapped. 12:36 p.m: Gov. Chris Gregoire’s office, Washington State Patrol and WSDOT Secretary Paula Hammond have called a 2pm press conference in Puyallup to discuss the flooding situation. 12:28 p.m.: The National Weather Service says the Chehalis River at Centralia could reach a record flood level Thursday night, 10 feet above flood stage. 12:20 p.m.: Two emergency livestock shelters have opened in Pierce County for victims of the flooding. Four-legged livestock may be brought to Frontier Park, 21718 Meridian Ave E in Graham, and Puyallup Fairgrounds, 110 9th Ave SW in Puyallup. It is recommended that owners bring their livestock with leads and food if possible. Shelters that have opened for citizens and their pets are the Evergreen Presbyterian Church,10118 249th St. E in Graham and Prairie Ridge Community Center, 14205 215th Ave. E in Bonney Lake. It is recommended owners bring their pets crated, with leashes and food if possible. Additionally, Sumner Veterinary Hospital, 15215 Main St. E., Sumner, has 120 kennels available. They offer a 50 percent discount to flood victims. 12:18 p.m.: Lewis County Public Health reminds everyone that if you have to evacuate your home, remember to take your medications. You could be gone for several days or longer. 12:16 p.m.: KING 5’s Drew Mikkelsen in Orting reports McCutcheon Road is completely submerged due to flooding from the Carbon and Puyallup rivers. This is where rescue teams are evacuating people. 12:11 p.m.: Whatcom County has declared an emergency. Dozens of roads are closed. The viewer says the officer is giving tickets to those who cross the road, endangering the fish under the fish and wildlife protection act. 11:57 a.m.: Skykomish schools will be closed Thursday due to water damage. Snow that has turned to water is leaking into the building. 11:54 a.m.: Update from Lewis County: -- Residents of Miners Road in Morton are being asked to evacuate their homes immediately due to potential mudslides in the area. Rescue personnel are continuing to respond to citizens, in the east end of the county, requesting assistance in leaving the area due to rapidly rising water. -- Much of Packwood is without power. A shelter has been set up at the Salkum Fire Hall. -- Information from National Weather Service advises that citizens have approximately 12 hours until the Chehalis River at Mellen Street, and the Skookumchuck River reach flood levels. 11:41 a.m.: Viewer Amy Hazen reports Morton is now completely cut off. Homes along the Tilton River are being evacuated. She says the fire department is rescuing a family stranded in a car on SR 508. The road was washed out behind them and there’s a landslide in front of them. There is a slide on Meiners Road. Houses are involved and the fire department is evacuating residents. Schools are closed. Volunteers are sandbagging the high school and other buildings. 11:34 a.m.: Snohomish County Emergency Management says residents in low-lying areas - especially those cut off by flood waters in November 2006 and November 2008 - should expect similar conditions. 11:30 a.m: State Route 410 is closed in Sumner from Traffic Avenue on the west to Valley Avenue. In addition, due to the potential hazard of a landslide, the City of Sumner is closing the West Valley Highway from the 24th Street Interchange to the north to the Sumner Heights Drive to the south. At this time, local access is still available to businesses along this section of the highway. 11:29 a.m.: The King County Flood Warning Center has issued a Phase III flood alert on the Green River and a Phase II alert on the Cedar River this morning. The Snoqualmie River and Tolt rivers remain at Phase IV flood alert levels. Dangerous widespread flooding is likely to occur throughout the Snoqualmie Valley. A Phase III flood alert is issued for Issaquah Creek although levels have receded upstream. 11:26 a.m: From WSDOT -- Forecasts indicate that portions of Interstate 5 could be underwater as early as this afternoon. WSDOT crews are monitoring the entire corridor and will immediately take the necessary measures to close the road if it becomes unsafe for vehicles. WSDOT is currently putting emergency closure plans together, working on routing traffic around the closure to keep traffic moving across the state. 11:22 a.m.: The Mossyrock School District in Lewis County will be dismissing students at 11:55 today due to high water concerns. Notification of parents is being attempted by phone.

There is concern the bridge there is going to go. 11:17 a.m.: Seattle Public Utilities says it is on “high alert” for rain and flooding. SPU flood crews remain on standby waiting for the rains and high waters that have so far missed the city, but which could yet arrive. Sand & sandbags are stockpiled at 3 locations for citizens and crew to fill as necessary: -- Meadowbrook Pond (N. entrance). -- South Park (7th Avenue S. dead end). -- Sand Point Way & NE 95th. SPU is urging customers to make sure storm drains on their street and neighborhood are clear of debris and to call or report any flooding immediately. 11:14 a.m.: At least three people have been rescued by boat after being trapped by high water outside Orting. Fire and rescue personnel from several agencies launched at least two small motorboats to check an area where neighbors said about two dozen people live. 11:12 a.m: A limited number of sandbags are available at the Kitsap County Public Works Central, North, and South Roads Shed for public use. They were helping another driver last night who was stranded in 2-3 feet of water. Another driver with a 4x4 helped them out. When the troopers tried to leave, they discovered they were stuck on a one-half mile section of the highway. WSP and WSDOT are working to safely rescue the troopers. 11:02 a.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the following rivers: -- Snohomish River at Snohomish until late Saturday night. It’s expected to crest 8.1 feet above flood stage Thursday night. -- Snohomish River near Monroe until Saturday afternoon. It’s expected to crest 9 feet above flood stage Thursday afternoon. -- Skykomish River near Gold Bar until Thursday night. It’s expected to crest 3.6 feet above flood stage Thursday morning. 10:51 a.m: The town of Randle is cut off by two different landslides on Highway 12. One is at milepost 90, the other is at milepost 107. 10:47 a.m: SR 7 northbound is closed due to flooding from Morton to the Lewis County line. 10:38 a.m.: Both directions of SR 202 from Fall City to SE 40th Street in Fall City are closed due to water over the roadway. 10:34 a.m.: Emergency rescuers in a boat are looking for people reportedly stranded in their houses by flood waters near Orting. 10:31 a.m: Carbonado Police say the citizens of Carbonado are landlocked because water is covering a 200-foot stretch of Highway 165. The city has opened the Ap Tubbs Road, which can be used to get in and out of town. 10:27 a.m.: Seattle City Light and Snohomish County PUD report no outages. 10:26 a.m.: Grays Harbor PUD is responding to an outage of about 70 customers in the area of South Union Road in Elma due to a downed wire. The outage occurred at 9:30 a.m. The estimated time for restoration of power is about 2 p.m. 10:25 a.m.: Puget Sound Energy reports minor scattered power outages throughout King County and Kitsap County, mainly due to branches on lines. 10:21 a.m.: SR 410 at Traffic Avenue is reduced to one lane westbound due to water over the roadway. Highway 20 at Lyman -- Mud, debris and wires are completely covering the road. 10 a.m.: Flooding on Issaquah Creek has closed the southbound lane of Issaquah-Hobart Road below Highway 18 just south of Tiger Mountain. The high flows have undermined the road and damaged a section of guardrail so it will be some time before state road crews are able to assess the extent of damage and make repairs. During the closure, southbound traffic should use 244th Ave. SE and SE 216th Street. Jones Road at 196th Ave SE off of State Route 169 between Maple Valley and Renton has been closed due to a mudslide. Another significant slide has been reported on Lake Dorothy Road east of 468th Ave. SE near North Bend. Lewis County US 12 from milepost 86 to milepost 92 is closed due to a large mud slide Pierce County An over six-mile stretch of SR 162 is closed from Orville Road to just outside the town limits of South Prairie (milepost 11 to 17.5). SR 165 near Church Street in Wilkeson is closed due to flood waters. Standing water on I-5, SR 16, and SR 512 poses potential danger to motorists driving too fast for conditions. Due to weather and road conditions across the region, the I-5/SR 16 Westbound Nalley Valley groundbreaking event scheduled for this morning has been canceled. Skagit County SR 20 - Closed at Minkler Road (milepost 71.6) to Hamilton Road in Lyman (milepost 79) due to water over the roadway. SR 20 - Closed at Concrete (at east city limit, milepost 90) to Jackman Creek Road (milepost 91) due to two mud slides. SR 20 - Closed at Newhalem (milepost 121) due to avalanches over roadway. Thurston County SR 8 at Kennedy Creek is closed because of water and debris over the roadway at the US 101 Junction. Motorists can get around the closure by taking US 101 to SR 108 and then back to SR 8. Whatcom County I-5 - Northbound on-ramp at North Lake Samish (exit 246) closed due to water over roadway. I-5 - Northbound off-ramp at Iowa Street (exit 254) closed due to water over roadway. SR 9 - closed at Whichersham Road (milepost 68) and SR 542 (milepost 79) due to water over the roadway. SR 539 - Closed under I-5 interchange due to flooding. SR 539 - One lane closed at Kelly Road (milepost 2.5) due to water over roadway. SR 542 - Closed at Coal Creek Bridge (milepost 35.5) due to an avalanche. SR 546 - Closed at Fish Trap Creek due to water over the roadway. Yakima County: SR 410 is closed at milepost 89 at Bumping River Road due to falling and hazardous trees. A mudslide has occurred on US 12 at milepost 172. 8:13 a.m.: Highway 12, White Pass closed - White Pass ski resort employees have reported a mudslide about 20 miles east of the summit. WSDOT confirms that a mudslide has closed both directions from milepost 86 after Birley Road to milepost 93 before Highland Valley Rd. 8:13 a.m.: Kitsap County sandbags - A limited number of sandbags are available at the Kitsap County Public Works Central, North, and South Roads Shed for public use. The locations of the facilities where the sandbags can be picked up are: North Roads Central Roads South Roads 301 Berndt Rd. 1971 Seabeck Highway 2339 Cedar Road Poulsbo Bremerton Port Orchard For many years the county has provided sandbags to the public for flooding events and with the heavy rains having arrived last night and expected to continue today, there may be a chance of some urban flooding. The sandbags are staged outside the gates of each shed with a limit of 20 per household. 8:09 a.m. Evacuations recommended by city of Sumner - Due to the rising water level of the Puyallup River, the City of Sumner and East Pierce Fire and Rescue are recommending evacuation to residents in the following areas: Rainier Manor Rivergrove Apartments Those units of Riverwalk that are directly adjacent to the river All other residents in the Rivergrove area are asked to remain alert. Updates will be posted to the City of Sumner website at www.ci.sumner.wa.us. Residents evacuating should bring with them sweats/warm clothes, medications, personal hygiene items, personal identification/health insurance card, water/food. 8:02 a.m.: Evacuations recommended in Rochester in Thurston County - The Rochester Fire Department is recommending evacuations for several dozen homeowners who live along the Chehalis river who saw flooding in December of 2007. As of 8 a.m. this morning, no property is flooding but they are expecting things to get worse this afternoon. They've opened the emergency operations center in Rochester. 7:42 a.m.: River flood warnings - KING5 Meteorologist Rich Marriot says there are flood warnings on 18 Western Washington rivers: Puyallup River near Orting - expected to hit record levels Newaukum River near Chehalis - expected to hit record levels Major flooding expected on: Bogachill River Snohomish River Skokomish River Satop River Stillaguamish River skykomish River Tolt River Snoqualmie River Issaquah Creek Nisqually River Minor to moderate flooding expected on: Nooksack River Carbon River Skagit River Deschutes River Cedar River Chehalis River 7:37 a.m.: Issaquah flooding update - Battalion Chief for Eastside Fire tells KING 5 News 20 homes in the Sycamore neighborhood have water encroaching, but up to 50 homes could end up being affected before the day it out. Sycamore Avenue at South Front Street is closed. People who live there can walk out of the neighborhood, but they cannot drive out. KING 5 News reporter Tim Robinson says residents of 8 homes were notified by crews that water was approaching their front doors. 7:13 a.m.: Pierce Co. roads update - Due to water over the roadways, the following road closures on main roads are in effect: SR 161 in Pierce County is closed northbound at 224th St SR 162 at the Bowman Hilton Road Junction South Prairie Road at 162nd St. SR 165 from Ash St. to Church St. From milepost 16 to milepost 17 This list is not a complete list. For up-to-date road closures, please go to the Pierce County Crisis Communications website and pull down 'Road Closures.' 7:04 a.m.: Wahkiakum evacuation urged - KING5 News reports authorities are going door to door urging residents to leave the homes near creeks that flow into the Columbia River. 7:00 a.m.: Highway 9 near Acme in Whatcom County is closed due to water - KING 5 reporter Jane McCarthy reports a section of Highway 9 between mileposts 68 and 79 is closed. McCarthy says the closure basically isolates the town of Acme. 6:34 a.m.: Army Corps of Engineers on flood alert - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District, Reservoir Control Center began 24-hour operation Jan. 6. The District Emergency Operation Center has been activated and alerted flood teams for western Washington basins with one team out on the Olympic Peninsula. The reservoirs behind dams the Corps operates are all down at low levels ready to hold back anticipated high flows. The Corps operates dams in the White/Puyallup, Green/Duwamish, Skagit and Wynoochee basins for flood risk reduction. Flood fight teams from the Corps are prepared to assist local governments wherever needed and several will be headed out to western Washington basins early Wednesday. The Corps is monitoring the situation throughout western Washington. "The Corps has teams of emergency responders that assist in floods and natural disasters and they are ready to assist local governments," said Seattle District Emergency Management Chief Paul Komoroske. 6:21 a.m.: Orting area evacuation update - There has been an evacuation order for the Orting area along the Oroville Rd. up to Kapowsin along the Puyallup River and SR 162 along the Carbon River and South Prairie Creek, including 177th St. E (Allward Rd.). Residents have been asked to evacuate due to imminent flooding. Local law enforcement has been going door-to-door to notify households, and phone messages with the evacuation request went to approximately 750 homes in the area. 6:17 a.m.: Snoqualmie river at Phase IV flood aler4t level - Flooding update for King County Flood Warning Center and Officials at the King County Flood Warning Center say the Snoqualmie River, driven by heavy rainfall from a powerful tropical storm, has risen to a Phase IV flood alert level early Wednesday morning. Dangerous widespread flooding is likely to occur throughout the Snoqualmie Valley. The Flood Warning Center, which opened Tuesday afternoon to monitor conditions, has also just issued a Phase II flood alert level for the Green River, where only minor flooding is expected. Meanwhile, the Tolt River remains at a Phase IV flood alert level and Issaquah Creek is at a Phase II flood alert level. At 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, the sum of the Snoqualmie River's three forks was 41,000 cubic feet per second (cfs), which is well above the Phase III flood alert threshold of 38,000 cfs. At these flows, flooding can be expected across the entire Snoqualmie Valley, with some residential areas experiencing dangerous high velocities and the closure of major transportation routes. The Green River above Auburn was flowing at 7,300 cfs as of 5:45 a.m. Wednesday morning. At these flows, only minor flooding of agricultural areas in the Green River Valley above Auburn would be anticipated. The Tolt River near Carnation continues at a dangerous Phase IV flood alert level. As of 5 a.m., the Tolt was flowing at 11,800 cfs, still well above the Phase IV flood alert level of 7,000 cfs. At this level, levees could overtop near Carnation, and major roadways could be closed because of fast, deep floodwaters. Issaquah Creek, which had been at a Phase III flood alert level, has dropped down to a Phase II flood alert level. 5:36 a.m.: SR 165 in Wilkeson closed - SR 165 is closed in both directions near Church Street in Wilkeson due to water over the roadway. LOCATION: SR 165 at milepost 16 in the town of Wilkeson in Pierce County START: January 7, 2009, 4:00 a.m. Est. END: Unknown 5:50 a.m.: National Weather Service flood warning update - The flood warning remains in effect until 1045 am PST Thursday for urban areas and small streams in the following western Washington Counties... Skagit county... Whatcom county... Rain...heavy at times...continued across the area. Additional Rainfall amounts of 1 to 4 inches...locally near 8 inches in the Cascades...are expected by Thursday morning. More rain on top of what has already fallen will only result in more urban and small stream flooding. Flooding was already occurring in parts of Bellingham where up to three feet of water has been reported on some streets. In addition to the heavy rains...rapidly melting snow in the sheltered valleys in and near the Cascade range was only making the situation worse by creating more runoff. A flood warning means flooding is occurring or is imminent. Most Flood related deaths occur in automobiles. Precautionary/preparedness actions...excessive runoff from heavy rainfall and melting snow will cause flooding of small streams...highways...and underpasses. Additionally...rural roads and farmlands along the banks of streams as well as other low lying areas are subject to flooding. Runoff from the heavy rains could also trigger landslides. 5:36 a.m.: SR 162 in Pierce County closed - A five-mile stretch of SR 162 (Orville Road to just after South Prairie Creek)in Orting is closed due to water over the roadway. LOCATION: SR 162 from milepost 11 to milepost 16 in the town of Orting in Pierce County START: January 7, 2009, 4:00 a.m. Est. END: Unknown 5:36 a.m.: King County Road update and Flood Warning Center activation - The Flood Warning Center has been activated and road crews are on patrol and ready to respond to flooded roadways. Currently 5 roads have been closed due to flooding and additional closures should be expected based on current weather warnings calling for major flooding in the Snoqualmie Valley. Even after the storm has subsided, road problems will likely continue as higher flows move through the Snoqualmie River system. Residents should also be on the lookout for local urban flooding as local creeks rise and storm drains are overwhelmed. King County Road Services Division crews will continue to monitor roads prone to flooding and make closures as necessary. Motorists are again warned of the dangers associated with driving through deep standing water or around barricades and road closure signs. Motorists who spot a problem on a road maintained by King County should report it by calling 206-296-8100 or 1-800-KC ROADS. The reports are saying the river will crest later today. The river is above flood stage. They have not received any flooding of any homes. Lots of calls of water over roadways - Roadway between South Prairie and Orting has a 1,000 foot long section with water over roadway. Cutting off South Prairie from Orting. No injuries are reported. There have been a couple of minor landslides the first over Jovita Blvd, and W. Valley Hhwy. The second minor landslide is on Salmon Beach in Tacoma Overnight: 4:42 a.m.: Issaquah rising water warning: Issaquah Creek at a phase II flood alert with minor to moderate flooding expected in flood prone areas. Asking people to initiate their household flood strategy and asking people to not walk, wade or drive in flooded areas. 2 road closures which are - Newport Way SW from Wildwood Blvd SW - Front St. South 2nd road is Sycamore Drive SE - from Front St South - SE Sycamore Lane. No actual evacuations right now but in the Sycamore neighborhood there are crews contacting households to advise them of the potential flooding threat. The city is delivering sand and bags if needed. They can call 425-837-3470. 4:14 a.m.: North Bend, Woman briefly trapped in car by flood waters - The woman was trapped in her car in North Bend at 12400 East Ribary Rd. She got out ok and King County workers set out road closed signs. 3:53 a.m.: Power outages - Puget Sound Energy reports minor scattered outages throughout north King County - the biggest outage is a circuit outage in Redmond affecting a 1000 customers in. Crews just got on site about a half hour ago, hoping to restore as soon as possible. In total 1500 customers are out. 4:05 a.m.: SR 8 in Thurston County closed to ALL traffic - Water over the roadway has caused the closure of SR 8 in the Kennedy Creek/Summit Lake vicinity of Thurston County to all traffic. Earlier, WSP was allowing semis to travel through. Conditions have become too hazardous for any vehicle to travel through the closure area. 3:52 a.m.: SR 112 in Clallam County closed - Both directions of SR 112 near Hoko-Ozette Road are closed due to water over the roadway. LOCATION: SR 112 at milepost 12 near the town of Clallam Bay in Clallam County START: January 7, 2009, 3:46 a.m. Est. END: Unknown OTHER: Motorists can expect delays and use alternate routes. 3:27 a.m.: SR 8 in Thurston County closed - Water over the roadway has caused the closure of SR 8 in the Kennedy Creek/Summit Lake vicinity of Thurston County to passenger vehicles. LOCATION: SR 8 from milepost 14 to milepost 15 Kennedy Creek in Thurston County START: January 7, 2009, 3:10 a.m. Est. END: Unknown OTHER: At this time, the Washington State Patrol is letting semis through the area but passenger vehicles are being turned around. Motorists can expect delays and should use alternate routes. WSDOT Maintenance crews are on scene. 2:43 a.m.: Whatcom County declares state of emergency - Whatcom County Executive Pete Kremen has declared a state of emergency for Whatcom County as a result of the heavy rain, warm temperatures and resulting rapid snow melt. This situation has resulted in wide spread flooding impacting major transportation corridors and some homes and businesses throughout the county. As a result, City of Bellingham and Whatcom County public safety and public works officials have opened a Joint Emergency Operations Center to deal with the current flood situation, as well as plan for a potential river flood situation later today into Thursday. Some of the current issues being addressed include; Whatcom County: Several road closures, including Mount Baker Highway at the 6400 Block and mile post 40. Debris/landslides on Hillside Road and the end of Goodwin Road A mudslide has damaged and closed the Lake Samish Market A mudslide has hit a house in the 3600 block of Nelson Road Bellingham: Iowa Street at I-5 is closed due to flooding. Two businesses appear to have been impacted by minor flooding. Northshore east of Britton Road closed by water over roadway Overwhelmed sewers resulting in flooded basements At this time we have no reports of any injuries related to this event. 1:37 a.m.: I-90 Snoqualmie Pass closed by avalanche - Interstate 90 is closed from North Bend to Ellensburg due to an avalanche that occurred on Snoqualmie Pass. LOCATION: I-90 from milepost 33 to milepost 106 North Bend to Ellensburg OTHER: Due to the nature of this closure an estimated time to open the roadway is not determined. 1:36 a.m.: SR 20 in Skagit County closed - SR 20 is closed in both directions between Minkler Road and Hamilton Cemetery Road due to water and debris on the roadway. LOCATION: SR 20, mileposts 71 - 77, between Minkler and Hamilton in Skagit County. START: Tuesday, Jan. 6, 8:40 p.m. Est. END: Unknown OTHER: Traffic is being detoured onto the Lyman-Hamilton Highway.
